The Virtue of Paying Attention

I recently attended a local bike coalition charity dinner and auction for the third year in a row as my husband is an avid cyclist. As we made our way to our table, I recognized two familiar faces. I smiled and reached out my hand to say hello but before I could the woman said to me, “Hello, nice to meet you. You must be new. I’m Virginia.” I was amused as I said, “We’ve met twice before. I’m Liz, I was here last year and the year before.” The woman looked genuinely confused but smiled politely and then hurriedly looked down into her phone to gauge where she was at in the online bidding war for her new bike bench.

As the night continued, I enjoyed small talk with the couple and asked about their previous year’s winnings, she, a light reflector jacket for cycling and him a new helmet. They both were surprised yet touched that I remembered such small details.

This experience happens quite frequently where I remember faces seen just once or recall a conversation nearly word for word. People tend to think that I have some amazing memory but in fact I simply pay attention. Wherever I am or find myself to be, I give total uncompromising attention to my present experience. This is not something that I consciously aim to do. This is a natural consequence and result of many years of meditation and subsequent slowing down of internal thoughts in order to allow the present moment to shine through.

Why Paying Attention Matters – Effortless Grace and Ease

Our bodies and minds are tools that we use to navigate this reality. Many people are so deeply identified with their bodies and minds that their awareness and attention is solely focused on these two dimensions exclusively. If all your energy is focused on your body (five senses including: sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch) or your mind (random thoughts, excited emotions, past memories and future projections) then that leaves very little energy to actually pay attention and be aware of your world.

Increasing your available energy to pay 100% attention to your present experience is what mindfulness, or a sustained meditation practice is all about. Spiritual or conscious evolution is essentially increasing your capacity and capability to be fully aware and attentive to your present surroundings.

One may wonder why paying attention is such a valuable commodity. The reason is because, if you offer uncompromising awareness and attention to your present experience you will navigate life without unnecessary negative consequences, pitfalls, or limitations.

A fully conscious person is not immune to negative circumstances or events, but their higher perceptions and increased clarity allow them more options to seek a solution to whatever challenge is currently presented to them. People that are heavily influenced by their body senses and/or internal thoughts do not have enough energy to clear the space for more options. Options come from clarity of mind and one can act far more efficiently, effortlessly and intelligently than those who struggle to see the forest from the trees.

Some years ago, when my grandmother was still alive, I received a frantic phone call from my aunt telling me that my grandmother was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. At the time my grandmother was 92 years old. I was sad to hear this, but I knew that my grandmother wouldn’t live forever and that her body was starting to break down and cancer had overtaken her normally healthy immune system. To my surprise my aunt then told me that my grandmother’s doctor recommended a mastectomy as soon as possible in order to stop the cancer from spreading. As I listened, I heard many thoughts pop up into my mindscape; ‘She is too old for such an invasive procedure’, ‘this sounds like an over the top and drastic solution’, ‘there must be another way to go about treating this’. I calmly described each of these ideas to my aunt, but she was overcome with emotion and almost desperate to get the appointment scheduled for my grandmother to go have her mastectomy immediately.

My aunt even went so far as to describe in vivid detail a nonexistent wound that would swell and fester and create much unnecessary pain for my grandmother. My aunt was very much sold on the idea of the emergency mastectomy and was defending her position by trying to convince me that this was the right direction to take. Yet, I remained calm and steady as I listened to her words. When I realized that my aunt wouldn’t listen to any other alternative, I simply said, “at least get another opinion from a highly credited geriatric oncologist to see what other options we have.” The phone went silent and my aunt had nothing to say. It never occurred to her to seek a 2nd opinion much less discover an alternative treatment.

A week later my aunt called me again to tell me that they went to see another oncologist at Loyola Hospital, and she prescribed noninvasive hormone therapy in order to shrink the small tumor. Both my grandmother and aunt elected for this option and things soon settled back to normal.

How to Develop A Clear Mind

We live in a physical universe governed by physical laws. Our bodies require food for energy and sleep for rejuvenation and repair. Money is the currency we use to live in a house, buy food, purchase clothes, and drive a car. We earn a living in various ways depending on capability, experience, and or intellect.

Developing a clear mind is no different from losing weight or earning a master’s degree. One needs to do the prescribed actions on a consistent basis in order to actualize results. The only question is, are you dedicated, disciplined, and motivated enough to put forth the necessary effort to live more consciously?

We don’t have to worry about beating our heart to pump our blood to our various organs, muscles and brain. Life and existence have taken this burden from us. Likewise, we don’t manage our breathing or think about consciously filling our lungs with enough oxygen in order to keep us alive. This happens for us and is a gift from existence to not be burdened with this internal process. Everything happens for us so we may free up our minds to explore creation as we see fit. Thus, it goes as no surprise that the most ancient and simple method for developing a clear mind is to watch our breath.

Watching our breath can be done anytime anywhere and it is done exactly as described. Watch. Your. Breath. It is that simple. We are not deep breathing; we are not managing the process. We are simply being aware of our breath. Being aware of this consistent process regularly trains the mind to be in the present moment. If we are in the present moment we are not thinking of the past or remembering a previous event or experience, we are not imagining a potential future, we are not participating in a nonexistent conversation with someone in our heads, we are not worrying, we are not debating, we are not fantasizing, we are not day dreaming. We are simply watching our breath.

At first one may perform this exercise sitting with eyes closed. This will lead one through the classic stages of Dharana and Dhyana (concentration and classic meditation) and perhaps Samadhi (various levels of bliss attainment beyond mind/body awareness). When you feel comfortable doing this exercise sitting down you can graduate to watching your breath as you go about your daily routine. To many this suggestion sounds impossible, but trust me, with enough practice this becomes a natural state of consciousness.

The Natural Excitement and Wonder Of Existence

When you go about your day being aware of your breath you are in the present moment and seeing only what the present moment and experience brings to you. Thus, your level of awareness increases and your attention to detail grows.

You notice things you weren’t aware of before, the smell of flowers, the way the sunlight dances across the sidewalk, the gentle breeze through your hair and across your face. You hear a child laughing or a bird singing. You notice the insect crossing your path or see the wise old man watching you on the bench. You notice the woman talking fast because she’s nervous and needs assurance or the executive on the phone to a customer and sense he is telling a fib to get an unfair advantage. You notice the runner coming towards you and you can see, sense, feel and know their exuberance of being alive in a body that is strong, capable and free.

Life is full of excitement without looking for it. We just need to be attentive and the only way we can do this is to cultivate a mind that is clear, calm, and ready to work at our command – not the other way around.

Becoming Energy Rich – How To Plug Into Source To Stay High

Human beings are like living batteries. The amount of energy we have available each day is determined by many things including karmic imprints and lifestyle choices. When one is on the spiritual path, increasing your available energy and keeping it at a high vibration is of utmost importance. We stay high to not only experience life in a more purified and blissful state of consciousness but we also keep ourselves energy rich to assist the conscious growth of others and prepare ourselves for our own awakening and self-realization. Any form of spiritual practice is meant to increase the vibration of the human energy system and expand our level of consciousness.

When an individual is energy rich they not only have the physical stamina to withstand many daily activities but they have the mental control to stay on task without deviation, disruption, distraction, or boredom. In other words, they are in total conscious control of their living experience.

As you may imagine, living with total awareness takes a tremendous amount of conscious energy. To be able to sense your environment effortlessly, know the appropriate way to respond, and not take on any negative energy takes a high degree of self-mastery. Those individuals who live in this high vibrational state choose their state of mind and emotional response. Life isn’t happening to them but rather IN THEM. Individual’s with this level of presence choose to interact in a peaceful and loving manner with detachment to outcome and freedom from expectations. This is the highest way to experience life.

Live Like a Master

In order to aspire to live as a Master, one needs to understand basic energy principles. Perhaps the easiest way to maintain a high vibration throughout the day is simply to learn how not to leak it. Any information that we take in through our five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch takes energy to process. Though the vast majority of this goes unnoticed and is stored subconsciously, we are taking in innumerable points of data every moment we exist.

The external environment plays a huge role on human consciousness along with mental and physical health. The average person naively offers their mind, body and emotions to extremely damaging energetic vibrations that come in many forms: negative news, vacuous social media updates, pointless celebrity rumors, low vibratory music, shallow gossip, depressing people and gloomy living environments.

When we allow this energy to creep into our mind and affect our emotions we naturally become agitated, anxious and sometimes even angry. This surplus of accumulated negative energy lowers our vibration. When this occurs people tend to look for ways to release and throw off the negativity through recurring cycles of gossip, jealousy, resentment, shame and blame. The body reacts with agitation, shallow breathing, high blood pressure, low functioning organs, and eventual toxicity buildup. The connection between negative/low vibration stimuli with physical disease and mental illness is clear.

Thus, an easy first step towards plugging energy leaks is to take a good look at your current lifestyle and living circumstances. Where do you spend your time? Who are you with? Why are you engaging in this activity? How are you affected by it? What do you stand to gain from it? Can you choose another activity that offers a more uplifting and positive experience?

Self-inquiry and the ability to question our actions and behavior is a fundamental prerequisite towards becoming energy rich. We cannot live a life of high vibrational joy if we do not understand how and where we are limiting ourselves.

See Like a Sage

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” – Wayne Dyer

Our attitudes determine our perception and thus our reality. Those that are energy rich see reality with crystal-clear clarity, just as it IS without modifying it according to our limited perceptions or beliefs. To attain to this level of clarity in perception one must discard what isn’t true.

Truth is relative to the subjective observer as long as one identifies with a personal story or background anchor personality. A personality is a ‘persona’ or mask we wear to operate in this world, even though our true nature is actually infinite conscious awareness.

Seeing reality without the limitations of a small self or personality is what most of us are working on in our spiritual work and practices. We can accelerate this process by reminding ourselves continually that whatever we can believe about ourselves can never true.

“Any story that you tell about yourself causes suffering. There is no authentic story.” – Byron Katie

Going within and asking oneself “Who Am I?” will elicit many answers from the mind. Keep asking this question until the mind exhausts itself. Sit in the stillness. It has been called by many names but words cannot possibly describe the ineffable. Our true nature is beyond the confines of our bodies, minds, or emotions.

Individuals who ‘carry their personalities like clothing’ are fluid and go with the flow of life. Though they may encounter difficult situations, it is their attitude that determines their individual experience of reality. Creating a distance between our true nature and our many personalities allows one to interact in a wide variety of circumstances and energies without being subject to it. Consciously creating the personality is a skill all enlightened beings have mastered.

I am not my thoughts, emotions, sense perceptions, and experiences. I am not the content of my life. I am Life. I am the space in which all things happen. I am consciousness. I am the Now. I Am.” – Eckhart Tolle

Be Like a Buddha

Slowing down the amount of thoughts we have has a direct impact on our mental and physical health. An enlightened person has no thought unless consciously created for a specific purpose. This is exactly how the mind is meant to be used; as a tool for exploration and interaction not as a torture device driving us to insanity.

Since most of us are not operating on that level of energy efficiency we must choose a modified way of slowing down our thought process and conserving our energy. One thing we can do is start a regular meditation practice that entrains the brain to a greater amount of coherency between the two hemispheres. A sustained meditation practice calms the body/mind, offers a higher degree of awareness, alters perception to a more positive reference and outlook to reality, and plugs you into source.

Get High Like a Yogi

Not only does thought affect our mental health but our bodies also process these thoughts and emotions through chemical changes in our blood.

“All experiences are chemical, without any exception.” – Osho

Thus, anger is an actual chemical composition that the body reacts to and manifests. Peace is an actual chemical composition that the body reacts to and manifests. Bliss and feeling high is an actual chemical composition that the body reacts to and manifests! These states of consciousness are accessed through the mind and do not need an external chemical source.

There are many paths towards self-realization. The yogic sciences is by far the most disciplined due to the dual control of both the body and the mind. Yogi’s alter their states of consciousness through breath work and enhanced energy states. When you train the body/mind to follow orders from you, you can consciously choose whatever state of mind you are in. Given this choice, what would you choose?

“I don’t think there is anything wrong with alcohol, I am ignoring it because it doesn’t have enough kick in it. I am constantly drunk on something else – simply drunk on life. I can get intoxicated on just my inhalation and exhalation. People have fallen for alcohol because that is the biggest thing that they have seen. I am offering them a different drink, a drink which is much more intoxicating than alcohol. Most people who have tasted this with me have given up alcohol, not because they think it is bad, but because they think it is kindergarten stuff. They have grown beyond it.” – Sadhguru

Choose Your Fuel Wisely

In the ayurvedic sciences it has long been known to exist three main categories of foods: sattvic, rajasic, and tamasic. Foods that are tamasic cause dullness in the body/mind and make an individual feel listless, tired, and unmotivated to do anything. Rajasic foods are highly irritating and stimulating; they tend to deplete energy quickly. Sattvic foods uplift the body/mind and create pleasantness in the system.

Paying attention to the fuel you give to your body absolutely affects your state of mind. It is best to consume natural, organic foods that are preferably raw with all their natural enzymes. Fruit, vegetables, nuts and legumes are always a safe and reliable source of fuel for the body/mind. Choosing a highly sattvic diet with high pranic availability provides an excellent boost in energy and helps you plug into source easily.

Living an Energy Rich Life

The #1 way to live an energy rich life is to become more aware; more aware of where you leak energy, more aware of how you limit yourself through your story, more aware of your persistent runaway thoughts, and more aware of your physical diet. These are just some ways in which we live unconsciously and at the mercy of external circumstances.

It is time that we learn how to live a life full of joy and love by learning how to use the body/mind to explore creation as it was meant to be experienced. If you are tired of leaking energy and need to make some lifestyle changes a Life Coach Life Coach can help create more awareness to live a more balanced and empowered life.

How To Change Your Reality by Maturing, Expanding and Growing

Change occurs consciously or unconsciously. The level of self-awareness you have largely determines if life is perceived to be happening to you or life is happening in you. Though change happens constantly, most people are unaware of how they are contributing to their current life circumstances. It is only when we reach a point in our journey where we feel stuck, frustrated, confused, or scared that we take the time to ask, “How did I end up here?”

Though it appears that life ‘just happened’, the truth is that we are exactly where we created ourselves to be. Life can operate by no other principle.

We all have our limits. When we reach a level of frustration that is too painful to bear, we find ourselves ready to make conscious changes in our life. This requires immense courage and total honesty. When an individual is honest enough to ask themselves how they arrived at their current circumstances two things occur: 1) they take responsibility for their current life situation and 2) they open themselves to receiving the answer and a solution to their problem.

Our Inner Programs

As mentioned in my previous post of Dare To Free Yourself From Limiting Beliefs, the mind is the creator of your reality and the programs that you have downloaded are called beliefs. When we accept a belief as true this colors our perception in every interaction we have. Thus, it can be said that most people live their lives through unconscious self-fulfilling prophecies of their own making.

When you go through life unconsciously you allow these programs to run in the background filtering every experience you have with previous data from a past encounter. Thus in effect, you are living the same experiences over and over again. These universal difficulties may include: finding a romantic partner, the continuing struggle for financial freedom, chronic physical ailments and diseases, cycles of frustration and depression, working at a lifeless job, not having a sense of passion or zest for life, confusion as to who or what you are really are, etc. These repeated patterns are seeking your attention.

No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.” – Albert Einstein

When we sincerely take the time to ask ourselves how we ended up in a given situation we open ourselves up to receiving new information. This new information comes in the form of advice, coincidental encounters with people, seeing a book or movie pop up over and over again with a certain topic or theme, being asked to stretch ourselves at work, seeing someone that needs your help with a similar issue, being called to travel to a new place, a stranger offering their help at the perfect time and place, etc. These are the ways in which the universe speaks to us and answers our questions in a way that we can pay attention to. When we open ourselves to receiving new data and information to integrate within ourselves, we change.

The Power of Imagination and Visualization in Reality Formation

Change does not happen overnight. The process of reality formation first begins with a new inkling that things may be different from what we’ve previously known to be true. In the beginning change is extremely subtle and starts with a new belief or program that has entered into our minds. Often times this new belief circulates as a new thought and builds in a momentum of intensity over a period of time. As we play with this new belief (ex: I deserve – to be listened to, to feel safe, to be loved, to have a job I love, to be healthy, to be happy) we start to visualize specific scenarios in which we embody this new belief. This is called day dreaming and imagination.

We may visualize meeting someone exciting and new, finding that perfect job, speaking to a large auditorium of people on a subject we are passionate about, feeling physically pain free and revitalized, having enough energy to play with the kids and pets, going running, painting, cleaning the house, getting paid what you are worth, etc. All this imaginary work is vital to establishing a new paradigm of reality. Being able to actively visualize a new future-self living your dream life brings the courage and necessary energy to build this new reality into physical manifestation. Repeated imagination of a given thought, scenario, encounter, or experience will eventually bring it into your current life.

“The amount of time it takes for something to manifest is different for everyone and is largely dependent on how focused your mind is and how much energy you have at your disposal.” – Liz Hancock

This is how change occurs in everyone. It is a subtle process that largely goes without notice, yet it is operating in consciousness constantly. When we decide to work with a Spiritual Life Coach, we take this process into our own hands and accelerate it. A Coach is an expert in asking provocative questions that challenge your current mindset and belief systems. A Coach provides insight into your current life circumstance and offers new ways to think, act and behave which sets a client off towards living a more satisfied and fulfilled life that is in line with their personal aspirations and dreams.

To be conscious or unconscious, that is the question! The process of questioning our reality and beliefs is an ongoing progressive process that occurs throughout our lives. This is how life is meant to be lived; constantly maturing, expanding, and growing into ever newer, better versions of ourselves.

Are you done with feeling stuck and ready for change? If so, I’d love to work with you! Please click the button below and let’s set up a call to get started on consciously creating your life!

How A Spiritual Life and Meditation Coach Quickens Transformation

A Spiritual Life coach specializes in working with individuals that are interested in deepening their connection to their inner Self while pursuing creative ways in which to enrich their lives with spiritual/intuitive processes.

I work with individual’s to help connect the dots; allowing them to see the bigger picture from a heightened perspective. The past is the past and cannot be changed, but we can change the way we see things and reframe our perspective to one of empowerment and self-mastery.

Who Are Your Typical Clients?

I work with anyone that is ready to uncover their hidden limitations to discover a newly empowered Self.

My coaching serves people who:

  • Feel stuck, confused, and unsure of your true purpose
  • Have difficulty communicating with confidence
  • Have a strong need and/or calling to explore their inner Self and discover who they truly are
  • Suffer chronic illness or repeated relationship, health, or job problems
  • Feel uninspired in a job/career that no longer serves them
  • Lead a busy, stressful lifestyle and would like to re-prioritize their time, energy, and attention
  • Take on feelings of victimhood, despair, self-criticism, fear and self-doubt
  • Are spiritual seekers in need of clarity, guidance, and mentorship
  • Are beginner, intermediate, or advanced meditators in need of refinement, deep spiritual inquiry, and ego dissolution

My work with clients is highly intuitive; with each client presenting different areas to focus on, resulting in different methods, tools, and energetic practices that are offered. Different people need different approaches depending on their belief systems and perspectives.

What Is Your Process?

All clients schedule a discovery call to review their current life situation, needs, desires, and aspirations. We discuss what you’ve tried and what your looking to become. In this call we set the tone for our engagement together and confirm that our vision is aligned to bring out the best of what it is you want to achieve working together. I offer both a 3 month and 6 month 1:1 coaching package.

After the initial discovery call we then take a deep dive into your current life view and perspective. All client’s have 100% control of their coaching development and understand that they set the pace for how fast or slow their transformation occurs. The more engaged and committed a client is, the more they get out of their Spiritual Life coaching.

Every six weeks I issue a review and feedback form for all clients to allow for reflection and reassess goals. Many client’s experience profound shifts and find it helfpul to take inventory on where they started and where they are now.

Working With Your Energy

As a yogini, mystic, and energy practioner, I also work with clients energetically. Before all of our sessions I meditate to gain a clearer sense of what you need and how to offer you the best guidance. My work is intuitive. As everyone is different, people will present with different needs and challenges. It is my job as a spiritual teacher and mentor to know what you need, when you need it, and how to present this to you in a way that will have you be receptive and willing to make the changes necessary for your spiritual journey and transformation. By tuning into your energy before sessions I personalize spiritual roadmaps that help you navigate your journey in the best way for you.

Guided meditations are also part of sessions where both the client and I agree that going within will very often get you beyond your current predicament. Do not underestimate the power of guided meditations and energy work. This subtle dimension often elicits the most profound energetic and perspective shifts in clients; you do not have to be exceptionally spiritual to derive the benefits of a guided meditation. All that is required is a willingness to let go of what no longer serves you and an eagerness to receive that which wants to be heard.

I also regularly tune into your energy throughout the week to help stabilize and balance you while also transmitting love and higher vibrations. Love is a very powerful healer. Love can clear away any negative influences and help you stay on track.

Guided meditations during sessions often inspires clients to create their own personal daily practice. For those that are so inclined, I help you to create a personalized spiritual meditation program and morning ritual which helps to stabilize, balance, and ground your energy.

Face to Face via Google Meet or Traditional Phone Coaching?

My focus is on cultivating greater self-awareness. In most cases, phone coaching is preferred as the focus is on the spiritual intent and not based on the personality. The more comfortable and relaxed one is, the better engagement and faster the transformation.

For those that still feel more comfortable having face-to-face sessions, I do offer Google Meet calls. When it is time to meditate we both turn off our cameras so that you can relax in the present moment just listening to my voice as I guide you. When the meditation is over, we both turn our cameras back on to discuss.

My client’s are not limited to my local California area. I work with people all over the world.

Who Are You?

For as long as I can remember I’ve always been one to question reality, to seek to understand why, and experientially know instead of simply believing.

I am a rebel, an artist, a free-thinker, and a long time meditator. I seek truth.

I live fully because I know that life is a miraculous gift. You can read more about me on my About page.

Human Conscious Evolution In A Nutshell

Everyone is talking about being more aware or mindful these days but what does that really mean? Did you know that being aware does not mean paying greater attention? Attention has to do with concentrated focus on an object or activity. Awareness on the other hand is directly correlated to how consciously evolved you are.

Consciousness lies on a continuous spectrum and many scientists, philosophers and mystics have attempted to map human conscious evolution using various models. For example, Transpersonal Psychologist Abraham Maslow created the now famous Hierarchy of Needs which very simply illustrates how human beings must first have their physiological needs met before finally reaching what he expressed as human self-actualization.

Different Models For Human Conscious Evolution

Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

David Hawkin’s Level’s of Consciousness

Another interesting model by which to express human conscious evolution would be the lesser known Dr. David R Hawkin’s Level’s of Consciousness. David was a psychiatrist who had a clinical practice in NY for many decades before turning into a popular spiritual teacher in Sedona, AZ. He is the author of many books including the most well known, Power vs. Force – The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior.

Dr. Hawkin’s has created a logarithmic model for human conscious evolution using an emotional scale and view of life. He describes in detail how an individual can hope to move beyond negative emotional states of shame, guilt and apathy to more positive states of love, joy and peace.

The basis of his work is to draw awareness to the fact that humans can move beyond their current state of conscious evolution through concentrated effort and a willingness to let go of beliefs that no longer serve them. The scale starts with the consciousness level of shame which Hawkins gives a frequency of 20 and ends with the consciousness level of enlightenment where Hawkins attributes a numerical range of 700-1000.

Yogic Chakra System

Another very popular model for human conscious evolution is the ancient yogic science chakra system most referred to in ayurvedic, acupuncture, Chinese, Japanese or Tibetan energy medicine. This system refers to the subtle energy centers located within and around the human subtle body and serve as the energy regulators for human conscious awareness. Chakras are located all throughout the subtle body but the most powerful centers are located along the spinal column and start with the muladhara and extend to the sahasrara. This very complex energy system also serves as a model for human conscious evolution as the energy starting from the root chakra also known as the muladhara, deals mainly with physical survival and preservation of the species. An individual whose energy is focused on the higher chakras of the ajna or sahasrara interact with life from a more integrated place of wholeness, have a keen sense of perception and clarity and are no longer subject to limited belief systems or subconscious programming.

Evolving Past Victim Personality and Moving Towards Creator Being

All of these models of human evolution parallel each other with regard to progressive states of self-awareness. When an individual is only mildy self-aware they are primarily concerned with survival and self preservation. Individual’s occupying this energy level feel a strong sense of separation from everyone and everything, see the world as black and white, and feel as if life happens to them. Many individual’s unconsciously adopt a victim-like personality due to the lack of foresight for creating better life situations for themselves. Additionally, these people lack the fundamental understanding that their thoughts, emotions and actions create their reality.

However, as individuals correlate their thoughts and emotions to outside circumstances they are better able to manage their day to day lives with some level of consistency. The next phase would then be to understand the energy dynamics of human relationships and how our sense of self evolves through the mirroring of other’s behavior.

Many individual’s are locked into a constant power play of relationship dynamics and can stay there for a lifetime without maturing past this maturation phase. It’s hallmark is the preoccupation with other people’s thoughts, opinions and feelings and the tug of war that ensues when an individual simultaneously wants to be accepted by a person or group but also wants to be free from imposed expectations and belief systems.

Humanity is under great pressure to evolve because it is our only chance of survival as a race. This will affect every aspect of your life and close relationships in particular. Never before have relationships been as problematic and conflict-ridden as they are now. As you may have noticed, they are not here to make you happy or fulfilled. If you continue to pursue the goal of salvation through a relationship, you will be disillusioned again and again. But if you accept that the relationship is here to make you conscious instead of happy, then the relationship will offer you salvation, and you will be aligning yourself with the higher consciousness that wants to be born into this world. For those who hold on to the old patterns, there will be increasing pain, violence, confusion, and madness. – Eckhart Tolle, The Power Of Now

More mature individual’s recognize the need to be involved in relationships but not overly entangled in other people’s affairs. They have the ability to disengage before any emotional power plays begin. The ability to do this comes from a place of deep understanding that one is not defined by another and expectations for seeking happiness outside of oneself is the cause for all suffering.

This process of conscious evolution towards a more integrated and whole Self is the journey of all of humanity. Progressive states of higher consciousness are held by individual’s interested in going beyond the limitations of the body and mind and being in union with existence; the true definition of yoga. It is everyone’s destiny to evolve to the highest pinnacle of human evolution. The only question is, how can one go about quickening the process?

If You Want Happiness – You Must Take Responsibility

Everyone seeks happiness and wants to be happy, the limitation is simply the assumption that external things, people, places, or experiences bring on the feeling of happiness. This premise is false as happiness is actually a quality of consciousness that is innate to all human beings and is brought about when more conscious awareness is evident in a given individual. As one acquires more power and evolves consciously this sense of innate happiness, joy, contentment and bliss is an every moment reality. Thus we come full circle to our initial discussion of cultivating greater awareness and mindfulness in our daily lives because people have been told that this is the only way to maintain lasting happiness.

Humanity is at a very interesting stage where we are actively seeking solutions to the issues and problems that we have created. There is greater awareness to our environment, we are taking better care of our physical bodies and we feel drawn to mentors, guides, teachers and spiritual life coaches who have walked the path before us and can extend a helpful hand to assist in our conscious growth.

So what can we do to quicken our conscious evolution so that we may feel unlimited freedom, happiness, and joy? The most important thing that anyone can do is to start where they are and accept responsibility for everything in their life. After we accept our reality as it is without running from it, evading it, denying it, justifying it, excusing it, or ignoring it we must be willing to do the work necessary to grow. Growth means change and change often times means feeling uncomfortable in new surroundings.

“I want to change you” – that is not a revolution. “I’m willing to change” – now this is a revolution. – Sadhguru

Change can take many forms and includes all dimensions of being human including: physical, mental, emotional and energetic.

How To Be Happy – Physical, Mental, Emotional and Energetic Dimensions

Humans have two dimensions that we are consciously aware of; the physical and the mental/emotional. Some individual’s have a heightened sensitivity to the energetic dimension of prana, ki, chi, shakti, etc either through consistent spiritual practice or due to previous karmic implications.

With regard to the physical dimension, individual’s can certainly put more awareness to their diet as this has a direct effect on resulting hormones, moods, and mental clarity in everyday life. Eating more raw natural foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes while limiting the intake of sugar, refined carbohydrates, alcohol, caffeine and chemical preservatives are all straightforward ways to give ourselves a natural energy boost and feel better both in body and mind.

Additionally, regular and consistent exercise that includes both cardio exertion for our heart health as well as weight training to maintain bone density and muscle strength is also necessary to keep our bodies fit as we navigate through life and get older. Other ways to enhance our energy levels and resulting mood everyday: drink purified water, get direct sunlight, breath fresh air and receive enough rest so we are not always running with a sense of energy depletion.

On the mental and emotional dimension we can limit our exposure to negative news, superfluous celebrity gossip, sensationalized politics, or time wasting behavior on social media outlets. Our ‘mental diet’ and what we choose to let enter our consciousness on a daily basis is just as important as having a healthy food diet. If we are bombarded with negative stressors on a daily basis our bodies are constantly running on a fight, flight or freeze response with high cortizone levels that toxify our blood and organs. If left unchecked this way of living manifests in lowered overall immunity which can create autoimmune diseases, hormonal disruptions, an overly sensitive neurological system and leave the body susceptible to pathogens such as viruses and bacterial infections.

We must also take responsibility for the environment that we live in and the people that we surround ourselves with. if left unchecked, negative energies from unhappy and unhealthy people can profoundly affect our well being and build up overtime to create physical dis-ease and mental imbalances.

Finally, we also must take responsibility for our energy state. This more elusive dimension can be accessed through meditation, contemplation, concentration, and psychosomatic methods such as massage, reflexology, acupuncture, eft, emdr, chanting, hatha yoga, kinesiology, homeopathy, bach flower remedies, and many more.

Meditation is the best way to cultivate a greater sense of peace and joy in life while also assisting in the conscious evolution of the individual. As one meditates and accesses higher and finer levels of consciousness the individual lets go of old negative programming, resolves subconscious fears and anxieties, forgives old traumas and emotional wounds, can sustain more powerful vibratory energy pulsating though the body/mind and allows one to perceive from a much higher perspective of freedom and natural bliss.

In this way we take control of our conscious evolution through the four dimensions available to us. We no longer have to be the victims of outside influences and situations and see ourselves as separate and alone. As we mature and progress we know we are a small part of the greater whole of humanity and existence itself and help boost others through our higher frequency. The kindness, love, forgiveness and compassion we offer ourselves is also automatically offered to others as we go about our daily lives.

We change the world not by what we say or do, but as a consequence of what we have become. – David R. Hawkins
